About Us

We went to Southern Uganda in the fall of 2004 with an International Rotary Club project to teach three ways of cooking, with the Solar Cooker, The Hay Box or insulated cooking box, and the SixBricks Rocket Stove. The Rotary Club has taught these cooking methods in many countries.  After our classes in Jinja, we went to visit the wildlife at Murchison falls... and then we had our first encounter with the IDP camps in Lira, Northern Uganda. We learned that almost two million people live under the direst of circumstances. We were determined to return to the camps and help these people in any way we could.

Our first project took place in the spring of 2005. Working with All Nations Christian Care, in Lira, we started the stove project in IDP camps. Eventually, we completed stoves for families in all of the urban camps around Lira and started making stoves in the farther camps. During this first project we identified the situation with sick babies dying, unknown to the world, never born, never died, never a statistic, only a trajedy for the mother. We started our medical mission. The International Lifeline Fund eventually took over our involvement in this project allowing us to go to Gulu and establish another project.

(In the meantime, we consulted with the International Lifeline Fund to start another stove project in Darfur, Sudan)

In the fall of 2006, we went to Gulu and began working on our own as AidAfrica. We became incorporated in the United States and obtained nonprofit status with the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) corporation. We are now incorporated and have charitable status in Uganda as well.

We have an office in Gulu, a Toyota van, and nine local staff members. (two more vehicles are about to become operational). We have, after one intensive year, an operational team making stoves and taking babies to the hospital. Our present goal is to expand our operation and to become more efficient. (We want to make stoves for all people in Northern Uganda and see that all sick babies receive timely medical attention).

Also, we plan to begin a tree nursery and a well drilling program to provide clean drinking water. (120 out of 200 refugee camps around Gulu do not have sanitary water).

During this last year, five volunteers from the United States have gone to Uganda to help our project.

We also support an orphanage with nine orphans in Jinja, in Southern Uganda.

The SixBricks Rocket stove is made from six special bricks which are made from local materials. These bricks are very lightweight. They will float on water. Their purpose is to act as insulation and keep the fire very hot so it will completely burn up. The SixBricks Rocket stove has been invented, designed, and improved over a number of years by engineers. It looks deceptively simple and primitive, but it is based on the best scientific principles. It is designed to be very inexpensive, easy to mass produce, and intended to help the most people.

After the bricks are wired together, the stove is finished with mud on the outside.
