One out of every five people in the world suffers from an inadequate water supply. Water is critical to life. Water is especially critical in Uganda where the life expectancy is age 43 and half the population is under age 15 – and especially in the North where millions were in Internally Displace Persons (IDP) Camps, and out of 200 camps 120 have poor sanitation and no clean drinking water. Most villages also lack clean water sources. |
Thousands of children in Uganda get sick and die from unclean water that causes such diseases as dysentery and cholera each year. Adults suffer from the effects of drinking unclean water too.
Two of the best ways to bring clean water to Ugandans are with sheltered springs and bore holes (wells). Aid Africa can build sheltered springs, make shallow bore holes, and is repairing broken wells. Other organizations drill new wells, but nobody but Aid Africa seems to repair broken wells. It all takes money. |

Most trading centers and small villages have poor drinking water, but some have bore holes with clean water. Many of these wells are broken and a broken well is like having no well at all. Aid Africa has a qualified water specialist and we can repair these wells. The cost to repair a broken, non-functioning well ranges from about $400 to $1500. Clean water is essential to good health. Your help is essential to the lives of these people.

Springs are common in Northern Uganda. But if the spring is not protected, the water is easily contaminated and people will get sick when they drink it.
People drink from this muddy, contaminated spring. One week’s work, $1,000, and community labor turns this mud hole into a clean water source for several hundred people. |

Once a spring is located and dug out, a protecting wall and outflow area can be constructed around the spring. Then the water from the spring is kept clean for people to use safely.
