Ugandan Prime Minister Approves Aid Africa Work in Refugee Camp
The Office of the Prime Minister for Refugees in Uganda has given approval to Aid Africa to implement its programs in the Palabek refugee camp, including our Rocket Stoves, trees for food and firewood and a new improved goat program. Palabek is located in Lamwo district in the northern part of the country and hosts 47,000 South Sudanese refugees.
About 16,000 households are cooking over open fires in the camp. Both Aid Africa’s fuel-efficient rocket stoves and its tree for fuel program will dramatically reduce the use of firewood gathered from the increasingly scarce resources of the surrounding countryside.
Our Rocket Stoves use just a third of the fuel of a traditional open fire and reduce smoke by about eighty percent. Four fast-growing trees per family will provide sufficient firewood for cooking.
